About a Systems Approach

Systems engineering represents a new discipline that augments the traditional architectural and engineering disciplines. Whereas the traditional disciplines each focus on their area of technical specialization viewing a portion of the whole system, systems engineers focus on the performance and functionality of the integrated system as a whole and on the interactions between the various elements.

Systems engineers bring the skills and techniques to facilitate exchanges and to translate between operational needs, business goals, technical solutions and program management constraints – since integrated systems are result of contributions from all these parties.

Successful systems have had these contributions orchestrated for optimized output throughout their useful life.

“System is more than just a concept. It is an intellectual way of life, a worldview, a concept of the nature of reality and how to investigate it…”        – Russell Ackoff
